Air Vice Marshal Rajeev Sharma, Vishisht Seva Medal (Retd) has been a distinguished officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) with over three decades of exemplary service. His career is marked by significant contributions to educational administration, strategic planning, and national security. As a part of our institution, he brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to excellence in skill development and organizational leadership.
In his pivotal role as the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Education) at Air Headquarters from 2020 to 2024, AVM Sharma was the principal advisor to Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) on all educational matters within the IAF. He formulated policies governing educational institutions and oversaw the functioning of over 130 schools across India. His leadership was instrumental in conducting national-level computer-based examinations for airmen and officers, impacting over 2 lakh candidates biannually.
AVM Sharma spearheaded academic partnerships with 21 esteemed universities and institutions, facilitating higher education opportunities for Air Force personnel and their families. Notably, he established Chairs of Excellence and secured NCVET accreditation for the IAF as an Assessment and Awarding Body, aligning IAF skills with the National Credit Framework. As Principal of Sainik School Rewari, he transformed the institution from its nascent stage into a full-fledged residential school, enhancing infrastructure and faculty recruitment.
With domain expertise in counter-intelligence, he has commanded the IAF's frontline Counter Intelligence Unit and represented the IAF in national security forums. He has undergone specialized training both in India and abroad, contributing to the nation's security apparatus.
AVM Sharma has pursued various professional courses to enhance his expertise, including sessions on emerging technologies organized by the National Institute of Financial Management, Ministry of Finance, GoI, and a joint civil-military program on national security at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie.
A post graduate in English Literature and Masters in Management Studies (MMS), the Air Marshal is the alumnus of College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad, and a fellow of prestigious National Defense Intelligence College (NDIC) at Washington DC (USA).
He has also served as Executive Vice Chairman of the IAF Educational & Cultural Society and as a member of the Board of Governors for Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and UP Sainik School, as also the member of the Selection Committee for Principals of Sainik Schools (under GoI, Min of Defence), thereby contributing to the strategic direction and development of educational policies and programs.
For his distinguished service, he was awarded Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India on 26 Jan 2023 and the Commendation by the Chief of the Air Staff on 26 jan 2010.
